(COLUMBUS) – Mel Griffin has been an inspiring figure in Columbus, Ohio, for over five decades. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Mel has dedicated his life to motivating and empowering others. After graduating from East High School in 1970, he pursued higher education at Central State University and Eastern Union Bible College. His passion for public speaking led him to become a motivational speaker, a role he has held for over 38 years.


For the past 45 years, Mel has also been a radio broadcaster, appearing on television for 21 of those years. He is the President of Gold Chip Communication, which operates and formats radio station WVKO 1580 AM in Columbus, Ohio. This platform has enabled Mel to connect with people from all walks of life, using his voice to inspire and guide countless individuals.


In addition to his broadcasting career, Mel has made a significant impact in his local community through his dedication to service. He has spent 13 years teaching and helping children with their academic studies in the public school system, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Mel has also volunteered with parks and recreation, coaching young boys and girls in sports activities and teaching teenagers how to motivate themselves for professional careers.


Throughout his life, Mel has been recognized for his unwavering dedication to his community. He has received numerous community and speaking awards across the country, including the Columbus Gospel Legend Award, the Ministerial Alliance Award, a City of Columbus Mayoral Citation, the Cease Project’s Advocate of the Year Award, and the community award from the More Excellent Way Ministries’ Rally To Keep Kids Out of the Alley Project.
